When installing a Wavetrac differential or a new ring and pinion in your 020, 02A, 02J, 02Q, or 02M transmission, it is necessary to remove the rivets that hold together the factory differential and ring gear. These rivets should be replaced with special bolts and nuts, which can be obtained from Volkswagen or other aftermarket sources.
